Chiang Mai University and the University of Palermo Forge Academic Partnership Through MOU

Chiang Mai University (CMU), Thailand, and the University of Palermo (UNIPA), Italy, have officially signed a Co-operation Framework Agreement, strengthening academic and research collaboration between the two esteemed institutions. This agreement, signed by Prof. Pongruk Sribanditmongkol, M.D., Ph.D., President of CMU, and Prof. Massimo Midiri, Rector of UNIPA, marks a significant milestone in fostering cultural and scientific exchange, mutual understanding, and knowledge advancement.

A Partnership for Global Academic Excellence

The MOU establishes a comprehensive framework for research collaboration, faculty and student exchanges, and joint academic programs. The partnership is built on a shared commitment to enhancing higher education and fostering global cooperation, with key areas of collaboration including:

1. Research Cooperation & Knowledge Exchange

  • Facilitation of joint research projects between faculty members and researchers from both universities.
  • Mobility programs for researchers, young scholars, and post-graduate students.
  • Exchange of scientific materials and resources to support academic advancements.

2. Academic Mobility & Joint Study Programs

  • Opportunities for student mobility, including study-abroad programs, internships, and exchange initiatives.
  • Faculty exchange programs to support collaborative teaching and training projects.
  • Development of joint and double-degree programs, strengthening the global academic network.

3. Collaborative Participation in Global Initiatives

  • Joint engagement in European Commission programs and other international funding bodies.
  • Coordination of grant proposals for research funding, training projects, and infrastructure development.

Driving Internationalization in Higher Education

This agreement will remain in effect for five years, serving as a foundation for future specific agreements between departments and faculties of both institutions. Acting as key facilitators of this partnership are Prof. Mauro Ferrante from the University of Palermo and Asst. Prof. Orawit Thinnukool, Ph.D., from Chiang Mai University, who will oversee the implementation of collaborative initiatives and ensure the success of joint activities.
