INNO4Tourism Brings Sustainability to Life at CMU with “The Sound of Sustainability”

Chiang Mai University (CMU), through the INNO4Tourism project, successfully hosted "The Sound of Sustainability", an innovative Spotify-inspired learning event that transformed sustainable tourism education into an engaging and interactive experience. Held at the Innovation Learning Center, the event introduced participants to the future of tourism education through hands-on activities, industry networking, and gamified learning.

Designed to inspire the next generation of tourism professionals, the event showcased eight innovative courses developed under the Erasmus+ CBHE INNO4Tourism project. Visitors explored course exhibitions, voted for their favourite subjects, participated in Kahoot! quizzes and Bingo challenges, collected passport stamps, and connected directly with tourism and hospitality professionals from Northern Thailand.

The event attracted 77 participants, with more than 80% being CMU students, reflecting strong interest in sustainable tourism and future-ready skills. Industry representatives and academic staff also joined the event, creating valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration between higher education and the tourism sector.

Participants responded enthusiastically to the creative event format. The Spotify-inspired concept successfully blended education with entertainment, making learning more accessible and memorable. More than 77.5% of respondents reported the highest level of overall satisfaction, while 100% agreed that the event encouraged them to reflect on and revisit their professional interests. Interactive activities, engaging course presentations, and networking opportunities were consistently highlighted as the event's greatest strengths.

Among the eight showcased courses, Introduction to E-Service emerged as the most popular, followed by Labour Market Analysis and Job Seeking in the Tourism Sector, and Information Systems for Supply Chain and Customer Relationship Management, demonstrating participants' growing interest in digital transformation and employability within sustainable tourism.

"The Sound of Sustainability" demonstrates how innovative learning experiences can effectively connect students, educators, and industry stakeholders while promoting lifelong learning and sustainable tourism development. Beyond introducing new educational opportunities, the event reinforced the INNO4Tourism project's mission of building a highly skilled, future-ready tourism workforce across Thailand and the ASEAN region.
